RMIT University has been awarded funding in the Sixth Round of the European Union/Australia Joint Cooperation in Higher Education and Training Projects under the International Education and Training Program.

The project has been developed to promote the exchange of students in the areas of Mechatronic, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science with a group of three European universities. These are:

RMIT’s Australian partners in the project are University of Melbourne and Curtin University of Technology.

Purpose

IEMEE will provide the possibility for students to undertake industry-oriented research at an overseas partner institution. The students and their research projects will be incorporated into the research projects of the respective host institution. This is intended to achieve a strong integration of visiting students in the local research team, consisting of local students and staff. This will maximise the exchange benefits at linguistic, intercultural and technical levels. Students will be awarded academic credit for their exchange semester.

Funding

  • $1000 towards travel expenses
  • $1500 living expenses per month (up to 4 months)

Eligibility

To be eligible you must be:

  • An Australian citizen or Australian Permanent Resident.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in one of the following programs:
    • Masters program in Engineering
    • Masters program in Computer Science or IT
    • Honours program in Computer Science or IT
    • Final year undergraduate in Computer Science or IT

Exchange period

  • Semester 2, 2012 - September 2012 to February 2013 (Exact dates to be confirmed)
  • Semester 1, 2013 – March to July 2013 (Exact dates to be confirmed)

How to apply

Your application must include:

  • A completed Exchange application form (PDF 1.5Mb 14p) with relevant supporting documents
  • Statement of Purpose indicating preference of partner institutions and clearly demonstrating relevance of the specialization at the host institution to their research project
  • CV

Applications for exchange in semester 1, 2013 are due to the Education Abroad Office by 20 July 2012.

Organisation for Cooperation, Exchange and Networking among Students

The OCEANS Network offers an excellent opportunity to join a new network which has been designed exclusively for the students and alumni of exchange programs between the EU and Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and the USA. The network serves as a forum for professional development, group creativity and social engagement.
