RMIT University students attended a presentation by KPMG recently as part of their industry link program.

The students, who are undertaking Auditing 1 as part of the Bachelor of Business (Professional Accountancy), were given advice on how to be a successful auditor.

Tom Slack, Graduate Recruitment Coordinator, and Dawei Ye, Accountant, explained what it was like to work at the international accounting firm.

Mr Slack said that KPMG supported and promoted a well rounded lifestyle rather than a one-dimensional focus.

Mr Ye described a typical day for an auditor; explaining that it could vary between conversations with the CEO and getting to the bottom of technical accounting entries.

He also assured students that KPMG provided a strong team environment and enormous support for staff.

“I remember clearly what it was like to be part of the auditing student body,” Mr Ye said.

“I didn’t realise it at the time but the lessons I learnt were extremely important to the real world of auditing that I am now involved in.”

Mr Ye encouraged students to challenge themselves and take up all the opportunities that are offered to them.

Dr Antony Young, Senior Lecturer, School of Accounting, said: “This presentation gave many students something to strive for, not only in academic terms, but also in regards to their professional skills.

“Everyone was very impressed with how confidently Mr Slack and Mr Ye spoke and the assurance they had in themselves and KPMG.”
